During August GBTSDA holds the week-long European Masters & Leadership Clinic in Nottingham. This is an opportunity for masters and master candidates from across Europe to come together to learn and train alongside Grandmaster Strong and other international WTSDA masters.
The EMC ends with the presentation of new master and dan grades, followed by the Dan & Gup Clinic. Here, the masters hold a series of sessions, passing on skills and knowledge to the lower dan and gup grades. The clinic is open to all ages and grades within GBTSDA.

Who attended
Master Gaynor Russell and Master Robert Russell attended the European Masters & Leadership Clinic once again this year, as they have done for many years. They were joined this year by Mr Oliver Russell, who was invited to take part as one of the senior 3rd Dans — a fantastic recognition for him and for the club. Students from Ely & Witchford, across all grades and ages, also attended the Dan & Gup Clinic itself, giving many of them the chance to catch up with old friends from other clubs as well as train alongside them.
On the day
The clinic opened with KCN Strong and BKCN Khan leading senior and junior grades in two separate groups. Sessions ranged from staff and weapons work to partner sparring and self-defence drills, with everyone then free to choose four seminar sessions from a full programme, including:
- Falling safely in one steps
- Fun with one steps
- Bong combat
- Target drills
- Knife / tonfa training
- Sparring
- Belt training
- Latin American training
